Tokii.com, one of the world’s most relied upon relationship management website platforms for couples, just launched its Kony2012 DiscoveryGame in order to gain feedback, get people talking about the issues, and boost awareness on Kony. Each week Tokii.com offers a number of new DiscoveryGames relating to an array of topics like current events, politics, travel, holidays, love, romance, and sex.

Kony is now in the public eye big time since the world has learned of how he and his LRA regime kidnapped over 30, 000 children so they could work in its rebel group. Under Kony’s ruse, he made young boys and men soldiers, and sadly, young girls and women into “wives” and sex slaves since forming the LRA in 1986, according to the Associated Press.

“The social media world has exploded with so much response this week following the launch of a documentary titled Kony 2012,” says Karla Stephens-Tolstoy, founder and CEO of Tokii.com. “The 30 minute documentary is now posted on YouTube and Vimeo, and as March 23, 2012, the film was viewed over 80 million times. This demonstrates the power of social media and how people want to talk about the issues at hand.”

The documentary, which was directed and produced by Jason Russell for the campaign group Invisible Children Inc, was made in an effort to increase United States involvement on capturing a the man who founded the LPA in 1986.

“Tokii.com and its Kony 2012 DiscoveryGame is yet another effective tool in promoting awareness of Kony. Simply put, Tokii.com and its members want to make a difference and feel the need to participate in our DiscoveryGame,” says Tolstoy.

Tolstoy points to some thought-provoking results from members who participated in the Kony 2012 DiscoveryGame. “Interestingly, the majority of men feel that he will be killed rather than being captured, while the majority of women suggest he will be caught this year.”

She adds, “A point to highlight from our data is that while both men and women feel the use of social media is effective in creating awareness on the issue involving Kony, our members strongly feel that the negative media attention in the end will not make a difference in the end.”

Of course while Kony 2012 documentary has generated chatter, so has Russell himself, the film’s director who was involved in a scandal only days ago. Despite this however, men and women with Tokii.com don’t feel it does not alter the problem.

Believe it or not, it’s only a matter of weeks until kids of all ages will be heading back to classes for the new school year. Labour Day Weekend marks the official end of summer, and yet already savvy parents are tracking back to school specials and other timely offers from big chain stores – from computers, to pens, to clothes, to backpacks and books, and the list goes on.

But this year, there is a new iPhone app that parents should be adding to their shopping list: Tymoot — An app that enforces and tracks timeouts for misbehaving kids. Beyond being a timeout-timer, it also features a fun “Wheel of Punishment,” “Discipline Idea Board,” and can track your kids progress with “Star Charting.”

Called Tymoot, the app is unique in look and easy to use, and it is being applauded for being the ultimate mobile discipline tool with full Facebook integration to contribute, vote and share new ideas. The app was created by Ripe Apps Inc. (www.ripeapps.com) – a local company here in Toronto that specializes in creating new and innovative apps for the iPhone.

“While many kids will return to school armed with their iPhones and iPods, parents can also have powerful pocket technology to help enforce discipline and responsibility in their kids actions,” says Peter Gray, Co-Founder of Ripe Apps Inc.

Gray, a father of three, created the app which is now available in Apple’s appstore.

“Tymoot is an effective tool to enforce discipline and teach about the consequences of poor behaviour, plus kids connect with the punishment wheel and will love to see their positive progress on the star charts.”

The app includes Star Chart Tracking, which allows parents to follow and encourage their kids to progress towards better behaviour. One can grant gold or white stars to each kid with a few simple touches. Frowny faces are demerits given for timeouts, and may also be assigned for other bad behaviour. Each time a child completes a timeout they are automatically given a Frowny face by the program.

Here are some of the most popular ideas already posted by other parents. Any parent with Tymoot can easily post new ideas, vote these ideas up and down and flag them as favourites (for use on your kids):

Sibling Rivalry: If you have multiple children, the one who is acting bad has to stay home while you take the other (good behaving one) out for ice cream or a toy. They will then return home and flaunt their gift for being good. Behaviour will change because the “bad” child will want to act like the good one in order to get rewards.
All Siblings Chores: In a house with regular chores per child, a good punishment is a week of doing all the chores of the other kids. Also helps to remind them of how little work they normally do in their chores.
Meal Time Handicap: A child must wait 10 minutes before eating. Each child has to sit at the table and watch everyone start to eat. The food will be already portioned out on their plate; however they just can’t start eating.
Injured Party’s Choice: For crimes against siblings, the one who got hurt/offended against gets to choose any punishment from the Wheel of Punishment.

According to Rodolfo Novak, Co-Founder of Ripe Apps Inc., the app allows parents to put their eight favourite punishments onto a roulette-style wheel and spin away.

“The game also supports three sets of wheels, for different kids or age groups, and allows on to edit text on the wheel, while also adding favourite family punishments,” says Novak.

“There are independent timers for granting simultaneous timeouts to multiple kids, and a notification feature of timeout completion even if another app is foreground or the iPhone/iPod touch is locked. The correct timeout length is stored for each kid, based on age, or as you wish.”

Gray adds, “This new app is certainly a beneficial tool for parents and it’s available just in time for the start of the school year. We know that this new app will be a hit among parents everywhere.”

Canadian businesses just got a break, a big break. Arkadin Inc. has just launched its newest product to the Canadian market, Arkadin Express. The new service means that business owners and mobile professionals alike now have access to a top-notch audio and web conferencing service – a first of its kind on many levels.

It’s no secret that business owners across the nation have been limited to audio conferencing services, both in scope and in price. This has all changed as the availability of Arkadin Express means that businesses in Canada now have the option to communicate via state-of-the-art technology that is highly efficient and affordable.

Glenn Fleischman, Executive Vice President of Arkadin’s e-Commerce business, states, “We all know that Canada is a major hub in the world for entrepreneurial activity. What’s even more exciting now is that businesses here will be able to communicate and grow through technology and options that once never existed.”

What’s unique about the service? Fleischman explains Arkadin Express provides enterprise-level audio conferencing at prices that small and mid-sized businesses can afford. Arkadin Express is an online, browser-based service; the web conferencing service portion provided to clients is highly reliable and secure. At present, there are a large number of Fortune 500 companies utilizing this telecommunication service.

The price is also right. Arkadin Express customers can select the option of an unlimited conferencing monthly plan for a low monthly rate of $39.95 with local U.S. and Canadian dial-in access numbers or a Pay-As-You-Go plan offering both local and international conferences toll and toll-free dial-in access numbers costing as little as 2 cents per minute. This is now the only unlimited plan on the market that provides access numbers in Canada for a low monthly fixed fee for up to 50 participants.

Fleischman adds, “The lagging economy has prompted many business owners in Canada to continue closely monitoring their costs. Our technology, coupled with its very low cost for ongoing service, now means that businesses owners will be able to achieve their target goals for growth at home and beyond with less restrictions.”

Fleischman indicates that Arkadin carried out research from its 14,000 customers around the world – including Canada – that proved there is a distinct need for a reliable yet economic conferencing solution for professionals constantly “on the move.” Arkadin Express is also the perfect solution for mobile professionals such as consultants, lawyers, outside salespeople and others.

“With the click of a mouse on the Internet, Arkadin Express is all about creating more options and allowing people to communicate more efficiently and effectively,” says Fleischman.

“Kids master their iPods and iPhones so easily, with trivial games and pointless diversions, and now it’s time to put this powerful pocket technology to use on the parent’s side,” says Peter Gray, Co-Founder of Ripe Apps Inc.

“Our app turns your iPhone into a powerful and portable disciple tool, plus kids connect with the punishment wheel and will like to see their positive progress on the star charts.”

He adds, “In my family, timeouts are the bedrock of all our punishments and have been the only effective way to mold behaviour. Adding something new to this time-honoured technique is refreshing and fun.”

Gray explains that many parents from Toronto and beyond are now relying on this new app every day.

He indicates that the added bonus of an online community with other parents posting their best punishment ideas provides a wonderful way to stimulate discussion. For example, you can talk with little Jimmy about the clever little punishment you read about on Tymoot in order to encourage him to get cleaning his room.

“We really believe the online component, informally called ‘The Bad Boards’, will provide lasting value to parents, especially once they are beyond the “timeout years,” says Gray.

“Since we launched Tymoot only a few weeks ago, the numbers of users continues to climb at a tremendous rate,” says Gray. “There are lots of great parents out there who believe in technology and know that a thoughtful utility, such as Tymoot, can make their lives better and in this case, their kids’ discipline more consistent.”

Here are some of the most popular ideas already posted by other parents. Any parent with Tymoot can easily post new ideas, vote these ideas up and down and flag them as favourites (for use on your kids):

•	Sibling Rivalry: If you have multiple children, the one who is acting bad has to stay home while you take the other (good behaving one) out for ice cream or a toy. They will then return home and flaunt their gift for being good. Behaviour will change because the “bad” child will want to act like the good one in order to get rewards.
•	All Siblings Chores: In a house with regular chores per child, a good punishment is a week of doing all the chores of the other kids. Also helps to remind them of how little work they normally do in their chores.
•	Meal Time Handicap: A child must wait 10 minutes before eating. Each child has to sit at the table and watch everyone start to eat. The food will be already portioned out on their plate; however they just can’t start eating.
•	Injured Party’s Choice: For crimes against siblings, the one who got hurt/was offended against gets to choose any punishment from the Wheel of Punishment.
According to Rodolfo Novak, Co-Founder of Ripe Apps Inc., the app allows parents to put their eight favourite punishments onto a roulette-style wheel and spin away.
“The game also supports three sets of wheels, for different kids or age groups, and allows on to edit text on a while, while also adding favourite family punishments,” says Novak.

He adds, “There are independent timers for granting simultaneous timeouts to multiple kids, and a notification feature of timeout completion even if another app is foreground or the iPhone/iPod touch is locked. The correct timeout length is stored for each kid, based on age, or as you wish.”

“All parents want their kids to behave and grow into responsible adults, plus sometimes we, as adults, just need some quiet time while we’re on the phone or some peace so we can just cook dinner,” admits Gray.

“Tymoot is a quick and easy download to solve this basic human need,” he adds.

A new company based out of Milton, ON and Toronto, ON wants ensure there is more food on the shelves at the Daily Food Bank in Toronto.

Niraj Adhiya, a native of Milton, and Rick Majithia, who hails from Toronto, both just formed Take It And Go (www.takeitandgo.ca), a company that is committed to giving back to local community based organizations.

The entrepreneurial duo has just launched What a Bloom campaign via their site. This is a national campaign where people can purchase 40 Tulips for only $59.00 (a $125.00 value). Taxes are included, so is a vase with each order, and the deal includes free delivery to anywhere in Canada. But it gets better: for every sale made 2% goes directly to the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto as a donation.

The campaign was officially launched on the www.takeitandgo.ca website this morning (April 18).

“We know the sad reality is that there are so many people who can’t afford meals,” says Niraj Adhiya, Co-Founder and CEO of www.takeitandgo.ca. “We want to play our part in fighting to end hunger in our community.”

As Canada’s largest food bank, Daily Bread serves people through neighbourhood food banks and meal programs in approximately 170 member agencies. Donations and support are vital to ensuring that they can provide food and resources to the thousands of individuals and families across the City of Toronto.

Rick Majithia, President and Co-Founder of www.takeitandgo.ca, says the company prides itself on giving back and helping those in need.

“We know there are those who are less fortunate and need support. Our goal is to raise awareness of our campaign over the coming weeks as it will help people and families in need.”

Adhiya and Majithia launched www.takeitandgo.ca only eight weeks ago. Their online business offers daily deals at discounted prices. From restaurants to travel deals, the services are endless – all of which allows consumers to save anywhere between 50% to 90% on a variety of deals offered daily via its site. A printed voucher is available after purchase when customers sign into their profile.

The company is also devoting a portion of each deal sold to local groups including hospitals and community sports organizations. As the business grows, more community based organizations will benefit from their “philanthropic-to-do list.”

They only opened up their business only 9 months ago, and yet Wild Wing has become the rave around town among locals.

“I guess you could say that in a way we have become like that TV show, Cheers,” says Helen Pavlopoulos during an interview from her establishment.

“Our place is one ‘where everyone knows your name,” she adds with a smile.”

Both her and her husband George had a hunch that opening up a Wild Wing restaurant (located on Derry Rd and Bronte Road) would turn out to be a hit.

Sure enough, they were right.

While there are many unique restaurants in the area – from casual to fine dining – Pavlopoulos and her husband knew that a wing establishment was the perfect fit for locals and visitors from across Halton and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Their business is all about wings, and they are flying high with success.

It’s no secret that there are so many people out there who enjoy wings. And Wild Wing offers an array of various wing dishes that will keep you coming back for more.

They have just about every kind of style of wings one could desire. From “Honey I’m Home,” to “Feeling Frisky,” to “Hot ‘N’ Bothered,” to name a few, patrons just can’t seem to get enough of the offerings from the lengthy menu. Another specialty is their fish and chips and pickled willies.

While the food is raved about, Pavlopoulos indicates that another key ingredient to the success of the establishment is the service.

“People tell us all the time that we have excellence service,” she says. “I credit our devoted team of servers and bartenders – they are the ones who provide a real fun and positive experience for our customers.”

Inside, Wild Wing is a relaxed atmosphere. “It’s casual and simple,” says Pavlopoulos. “People really seem to like that.”

The décor has a country and western style theme to go along with music of this genre. The locale has a roof top patio with a bird’s eye view of the escarpment and a lower level patio. And if you don’t have time to dine in, never worry as they do take-out as well for all customers.

For sports lovers, this place is a must. The place is also decorated with seven flat screen TVs and they even have a 110 inch screen. You name any major sporting event, and Wild Wing will have you and your family and friends tuned in right away come game time.

Another attribute that makes Wild Wing so popular is their Friday Night Karaoke, which draws in hundreds of wing eaters, singers, and those who enjoy a cold ale or two after a long hard week at work. They have even just launched a Wild Wing Idol Contest where every Friday judges will announce first, second and third place prizes in May. Those interested in joining the Wild Wing Idol Contest, call 905 693 9464 for details.

Pavlopoulos indicates that Wild Wing is also committed to giving back to others.

“We sponsor sports teams and host events here, and we also have the opportunity to make donations and help local organizations,” she says. Those who are involved with schools or sport organizations can contact Pavlopoulos for fundraising by e-mail at ww58@bestchickenwings.com

She is well known in Milton and the surrounding area. While she runs a successful Wild Wing establishment, so many people also know her for her work as a real estate agent with Re/Max.

“Milton is a very unique place,” she says. “The people here are what make this town so special.”

She has many other business colleagues in the area who admire both her and her husband’s success story.

“Helen and George are innovative, friendly and very outgoing,” says Niraj Adhiya, Co-Founder and CEO of Take It And Go (www.takeitandgo.ca ), a company based in Milton. “Their new business has struck the right chord with the community and they are going to be very successful for a very long time.”

Wild Wing has been active as of recent on www.takeitandgo.ca, which has been another boost for its business. Take It And Go is a business that offers daily deals at discounted prices via its website.

Rick Majithia, President and Co-Founder of Take It And Go, states, “Helen and George have really connected to the local community here and they are amazing at running their business. They offer great food at an amazing location and of course are so devoted to their customers and local community groups.”
Wild Wing is also open daily for lunch and each day offers specials (just ask your server for the scoop). They will be open as well on Good Friday, so if you are in need for wings of fish and chips, then their doors will be open.

So, if you are looking for the right spot to get your wing fix, then Wild Wing is the place you will want to check out. Be prepared to be fed all the wings you want to your liking; be prepared to have fun; and be prepared to go back for more.

March 31, 2011
For Immediate Release

The Nova Scotia Gambia Association Celebrates 25 Years of Inspiring Nova Scotian Volunteerism in West Africa

On April 28, 2011, the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association will celebrate 25 years of operations with its Annual African Dinner and Auction, where three young volunteers will share stories of flying, swimming and running in support of health and education in West Africa.

“As someone who believes in the brilliance of grassroots leadership, I am so thrilled to be part of the NSGA’s Annual African Dinner this year. I am proud to be one of the volunteers in Nova Scotia who have stood in solidarity with the courageous Gambians working each and everyday towards a healthier future,” says Kristin Roe.

Since 1986, the NSGA has sent 700 Canadian volunteers to support its programs and staff in West Africa. The Nova Scotia-Gambia Association is so recognizable in The Gambia that it known simply as “The Nova Scotia”. At this year’s dinner, guests will celebrate the spirit of volunteerism that has been the foundation of the NSGA as they enjoy presentations from three of the organisation’s most passionate volunteers.

Activist Kristin Roe will share stories from her Channeling Hope campaign in support of communities affected by HIV/AIDS. Public health nurse Erin Poirier will talk about her volunteer experience in The Gambia and how it compelled her to launch the Love4Gambia fundraising campaign and run across The Gambia this July. Ten-year-old Jakob Conrad will share experiences from his recent trip to The Gambia and his Twoonies from Toubabs Valentines campaign. These inspiring presentations will accompany a night of traditional West African food, music and culture.

While talking about her plans to run, Erin underscores the importance of each person’s contribution to the advancement of NSGA’s causes, “Sure it’s going to be tough. I knew that when I said I’d complete the run. While volunteering in The Gambia I saw how the NSGA’s programs directly impacted the youth, I knew I needed to do something to help these programs continue. Frankly, when you really look at it two feet and one heart beat will really equal change. That’s the real message youth need today.”

This year’s dinner will be held at the Lord Nelson Hotel beginning at 6pm on April 28, 2011.
